If you’ve missed out on the chance to snag a dirt cheap HP TouchPad in the past couple of days since the company started clearing out its stock , there’s good news. According to a statement on the HP site, the TouchPad will be back in stock at some of your favorite locations soon:
If you’ve missed the hubbub, HP has said that it’s getting out of the hardware business and that the TouchPad will no longer be manufactured because of that fact. While some have seen this as the death of HP’s webOS, TNW has found out that there’s much more to this story including the fact that the TouchPad hardware isn’t quite up to where it should be and webOS on the iPad actually runs notably better .
With the Android modding community offering up a $1500 bounty on the first person to make Android run on a TouchPad device, there’s almost surely going to be a continued push to make the hardware viable for those who have snagged them at a discount.
New York Times’s Reveal is the mirror of the future
Reveal , created by The NY Times Company Research & Development Lab , is a mirror platform that explores the roles information and media might play in our future routines. According to the team:
A smart mirror like Reveal displays your heath stats, the weather and news headlines while you’re brushing your teeth. The R&D team calls this daily connection an “information routine,” and is fueled in part by the growth of advanced health and fitness tools on the market, like UP by Jawbone .
A killer feature in the Reveal is its “augmented reflection,” or the use of a semi-reflective glass surface that displays high-contrast graphics over real world objects. Dig deeper, and you’ll see that the whole experience is fully fleshed out.
Samsung Galaxy Note launches with 5.3-inch Super HD AMOLED screen, dedicated stylus
Samsung has brought its smartphones to the yard at Berlin’s IFA 2011 expo, debuting its new Galaxy Tab 7.7 tablet and now its huge new Android smartphone – the Samsung Galaxy Note.
If you thought the screen on the Galaxy S II was big then the Note is going to blow you away; not only does it feature Samsung’s HD Super AMOLED technology, it is significantly bigger than any other modern smartphone – getting into tablet territory here – measuring a whopping 5.3-inches.
The Galaxy Note is billed a super-powerful smartphone that can help you record your daily life by using its S Memo application and a dedicated S Pen stylus, allowing you to sketch and write down whatever you want, when you want.
Samsung notes:
Inside, the Galaxy note has a dual-core 1.4GHz processor and will be HSPA+ and LTE-enabled depending on your network, allowing for super-fast downloads and increased call-quality. It will run Google’s Gingerbread Android 2.3 operating system, snap photos and HD video with its 8-megapixel rear-facing and 2-megapixel front-facing camera, also including 1GB of RAM and 16GB or 32GB of built-in storage.
Samsung says that NFC is optional on this device, meaning it will probably be down to your carrier as to whether you can get an NFC-enabled Galaxy Note.
Release dates are yet unknown, we endeavour to find out and update accordingly.
